When to Backup

Database and file system backups should be scheduled at certain frequencies, based upon your specific business requirements. Generally, the higher the transaction volume, the more frequent backups should take place.

Backups can be done monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, by the minute or more likely a combination of some or all of these. A simple backup plan could include a rotating monthly and weekly backup combined with a number of hourly backups within a given day. A more complex scenario could include retaining 12 monthly backups. Obviously, the more backups retained the more storage space is required.

Cleo recommends you backup at least once per day for the last 7 days and once per week for the last month.

It is essential to perform a backup following any deployment of objects. This ensures a backup of the most up-to-date objects.

Database then File system

The file system must be backed up immediately following the database backup scripts completion in order to sync up the two as closely as possible. This will limit data loss and ensure your backup is as accurate as possible.
